  You are 100% right. There is a lot of crappy music out there which sometimes overshadows the good ones. I wonder where the Persian music is going to. It seems as though the style of Persian music arranged and composed these days is forcefully being changed to become less artistic to be more commercially feasible. I guess it is true when some claim to produce and make someone an artist/singer for an amount less then peanuts money. I for one, am very interested to see how these crappy songs arise to existence?

  raha, you cracked me up when you announced the worse songs of 2008…specially chalim…who the heck are they and what kinda talent is that. one penny spent was too much on their stuff. they need to start all over and be just a little original…come on, if you are going to do hip/hop rap stop trying to copy cat and make something a little…just a little original? where is the effort? “f” for effort. amri did deserve the worst for the year. i guess these guys put a few thousand $s together and create crappy videos and songs and forget what music is really about. they just want people to c their faces on the various music portals and then they get a chip on their shoulder that they are real singers…oh brother! However, we did have some good music this year…agreed with your picks, but there is a new singer “Makan”. He is original and for the most part he writes his own lyrics. His voice is absolutely amazing…he has started off really well and i think his best work is yet to come…keep an eye out on Makan! Another singer I think is really good is Bardia…i saw a couple of his videos and i saw his musical abilities..sad and happy songs and he writes his own lyrics and makes his own music…its pretty good stuff…was very impressed! Another one that came out recently and was originally part of a boy band is Kami…recently he came out with his first release with a video and I enjoyed it…it was entertaining in every way. He is really animated in his first video…i think he is born to be an entertainer. I think Dariush’s Mojezeah Khamoosh was truely a “miracle” this year! The lyrics were amazing and his voice..his voice is unstoppable…you feel what he is saying! Let’s not forget one of our best….Mohsen Chavoshi…his cd from the movie Santoori was unbelievable…i had goosebumps from all the songs from that cd…i’m not sure why people either love him or hate him…he is one of our greatest (other than reza sadeghi) right now. People have a lot to say about his voice (its not real) but I find his voice has a certain tone that is unique. they compare him to ghomeshi, but i think chavoshi’s voice has emotions! Its not your happy happy persian music…but it has a weird darkness to it that just gets you. You don’t have to have the greatest voice to sing. I think if the singer feels the song, so does his/her audiance…i think chavoshi deserves the number one spot

  Thanks a million Raha. I also appreciate much your courage to point to the disgusting songs and weak singers.

  Firstly, I do not know what the hell has been really going on during the past years in Iranian music. Some crap singers, horrible music, meaningless lyrics and cheap arrangements. They never think that they won’t be popular in public and they are wasting their money to invest on these craps. Who is really going to fall in love with these songs? They should leave this industry and let Iranians enjoy the songs of real singers.

  Secondly, our best Iranian singers do not belong to our generation as we fell in love with the songs of Ebi, Hayde, Aref, Moein, Sattar, Darush, Martik, Siavash Ghomeyshi, Googoosh, Mahasti and the others who belong to the generation of our parents. It is interesting that we found our music interests similar to that of our parents. During the past 15 years ago probably Omid, Mansour, Hengame and Shakila appeared to be talented but still they have a long way to go. Raha I anticipate that you will have a brilliant future in Iranian music if you continue to evaluate this industry carefully as your point of view is exclusive. Continue your job, we cheer up for you.

  I agree, we didn’t see many great hits this year, and i don’t think i would have found any better stuff for the top5 best ones.
  But i loved your top5 worst even much more. I knew i wasn’t the only one who doesn’t like this Goli guy, whoever he is, and the samething about the supposed to be “Persian Rappers”.

  no raha, I am not agree with you. some of those crapy songe that you mentioned where not that bad. I don’t know why we think when we watch a movie or a song we should learn something all the time from them. So, true some of those crapy songs didn’t have any message but their rhythm were happy for dance and good times. Therefore, we need those too like Nima or sharam & shahrooz… I don’t think I want to listen to sivaash ghomeyshi all the time and think about world’s issues, so we need those young singers on the other hand too.

  It’s not about teaching or preaching!

  I do agree with you, we need to have songs with happy rhythm. However their as great difference on an artist who is able to deliver and someone who’s not…

  First of all we need to look at our industry, the way of becoming a famous singer is 80-140’000 dollar process. By paying the TV-channels, local radio-channels, magazines, record labels, composers, lyricists etc. you will be able to buy, sing and perform any song you want… almost any song. So we have no standards, and by standards I’m not talking about any institution deciding who/what’s good or bad, we don’t even have one “producer/agent” who is able to support or sponsor his/her talent finacially.
  Which then leaves the true talents wasted while those who can afford the 80-140′000 dollar famous “stars”… sad isn’t?

  Nima’s song “Bebakshid” was made by people like Ramin Zamani and Shahram Azar composers with great knowledge and resumes. My point regarding Nima was that he is not in the same standard and there for manages to decrease the potential of any song he performs from becoming successful.

  And as far as Shahram and Sharooz go, that’s a completely different story. Even if we put the lyrics, music, and the vocal abilities aside, shouldn’t these two “artist” be able to move properly to the beat? I encourage you to watch these two brothers as they are trying to make a point “Effe Naya” not really convincing is it?

  However we do need happy songs, in fact I would guess that 80 % of what is released in Los Angeles today could be categorized as “happy” songs, and that’s why we have singers and pioneers such as the Shabpareh brothers, Shamaizadeh, Morteza, Faramarz Assef etc.
  All the way to Sandy, Kamran Hooman, Afshin, Mansour and Farshid Amin (the list goes on) to pruduce happy music, and if you ask me people like Nima or the SS brothers do not fit in that list.

  Last but not least… looking back at the top-5 none of the lyrics (except for #3) did make any statements regarding world issues. In fact neither did #3 it was only telling the newly immigrants what to expect from exile.

  I know it became a bit too long but thank you Naghmeh for (hopefully) reading.

  Hey Raha,

  Impressive job, but a little biased in my opinion.

  1) Nima is not great. He worked with great ppl, to step up his works. Can’t blame him for that. Plus his latest work Man Mikhaam is better than other typical songs. Don’t get me wrong, I dont listen to Nima… but in my opinion he shouldn’t be on the top 5 list. So many other artists deserve to be on that list that its disgusting. Makan, Kami, Rayan Nima, Farez, Soheil, Khashayar Azar, Farzam Feiz, Arta and Many More… still think Nima is worst than all of them?

  2) I think names like Erfan, Hichkas, Yas, Kaveh Yaghmaei, and Nami are missing on your list. So a top 10 would have been more appropriate. In that case maybe Sahand would have realized nice stripers are not necessary to sell rap music.

  3) Hamed Nikpay is simply great. But he still hasn’t proved himself out there. He will in the new future, but definitely wasn’t number one in 2008.

  4) Great work. This is what we like to see.
