The Office #75

December 8th, 2008 · 35 Comments

Welcome to this week’s Office Blog! Melissa’s cousin from Iran comes to visit, and shakes up the whole office when Mani realizes that he’s actually his favorite soccer player from Iran!

Fun Facts:

Mershad (Melissa’s cousin) actually has never played soccer in his life

This was the first script ever written by Melissa Shoshahi

All the names of the teams are fictional, and created by Mani and Tiam

I am very disapointed with this week Office show!
1st of all, dont ever make fun of IPL teams, its pretty rude the way you making fun of Iran team names and it not funny at all.
2nd how the hell the guy is new from Iran, where he cant even speak proper farsi?

Seriously do you guys need some one to write you some funny episodes, let me know!

  • 9 Amir // Dec 9, 2008 at 3:00 pm

    To Answer Pedram:

Why is it rude? its just a joke!

  • 10 Amir from Ireland // Dec 9, 2008 at 3:51 pm

pedram y do u insist writing in english when u have nothing but grammar mistakes……but yeah the dude’s farsi really sux big time………….

  • 12 milad // Dec 9, 2008 at 8:07 pm

chill out guys, let’s just say the guy was raised in Germany and transfered to Iran to play soccer for the last few years. would that fix the accent problem? are you all happy now?
I don’t like how some love to pick on Bebin TV’s great performance by pointing at the stuff that don’t even matter.
Bebin TV, you guys did a fabulous job again, keeo it up.

    Pedram Rashidi,
about your first concern, how can you not like that joke? we always do it when we talk about soccer. to refresh everyone’s memory, i’m sure we have all heard of “Aftabe sazie khorram abad” and “Kebrit sazie Bandar Abbas”, and who can forget “Ammame Sazie Qom” ? hahaha
Plus, you can’t make fun of something that has nothing wrong with it. Those names are the best names a team can have, it’s naming them after the organizations and industries that they belong to. and it’s not only done in Iran, it’s pretty much all over. I mean, Isn’t it better than the way Americans name their team? after animals and fictional figures !!!!!!! every time i’m watching a NFL game and i hear the names for the teams, i check the channel to make sure i’m not watching cartoons, they all sound like names from pokemon or somethin. dolphins, cowboys, jaguars, giants, redskins, and bears !!!!!!!
such goofy names for sport teams !!!!

    Hi everyone,

The episode was good. I just had some general stuff to say for the bebin tv staff. First of all, do u guys actually check the comments that people post, especially the links?? I think u should cuz there was one posted on the blog which had very vulgar language (I’m more concerned for the younger audience). Second, I think it would be nice if u guys would also acknowledge the major Islamic holidays as well just as you do christmas and other holidays. It would be good if you were inclusive of every kind of Iranian that’s out there. On that note, happy holidays to y’all and eide ghorbaan mobaarak!

  • 14 ohhh MG // Dec 10, 2008 at 5:38 pm

maryam plz be roshanfekr otherwise plz move to utah

  • 15 shockjock // Dec 10, 2008 at 7:27 pm

ohhh MG…i would ask you to move to Utah, but im pretty sure they wouldn’t want to pay for your broke unemployed behind.

Good point Maryam, this is part of a more general sence that, exile-iranians need to be more inclusive, and less reactionary when dealing with religion…it’s a tricky subject, but then again, it’s not completely off base to acknowledge a part of persian history that is historically revised in a irreprehensible fashion. It wouldn’t be wrong for bebin (or any media-outlet) to dig into this…again, just because you aknowledge the existance of muslim traditions within persian culture, doesn’t mean u condone the most extreme practices of those traditions.

ohhh mg…get your panties unbunched…it’s pathetic and embarassing…

  • 16 sam ghaffari // Dec 10, 2008 at 7:48 pm

    Maryam H
i actually like the fact that they dont consider islamic holidays. If u want to be a hezbollah move to afghanistan true iranians are zartosht the hell with the terrorist islamic religion im glad bush is killing them like the animals they are

  • 17 shockjock // Dec 10, 2008 at 8:26 pm

Sam ghaffari…wow…i don’t know if you’re related to the inhouse-loon of bebin…mehrdad ghaffari aka ohhh mg…but that was ignorant on so many levels….dude…seriously, either you’re part of the problem or you’re part of the solution…choose. Educate yourself…it’s embarrassing…instead of serving up turdburgers like another dimwhitted fool previously mentioned…im starting to see a pattern with the name ghaffari…is it hereditary or do you apply for a licence to be that uninformed??

    Well Done Melissa !!

  • 20 Enlightened // Dec 10, 2008 at 11:48 pm

    @ Sam

Im first and forth most an Iranian. Im a true believer in the advancements of science and quite simply I dont believe in any creationist stories.
That being said I cant look passed the fact that Islam has become a part of our history and present. As much as I wish happiness and advancement for my country I have to realize that it must come through the enlightenment of my people, but most importantly, first by the enlightenment of myself.
What is the difference between the fanatic criminals running our country today and people like you who condone the death of 1.5 billion people (the muslims of the world). Who are you to ridicule them and preach about freedom and democracy when you at the same time turn around and preach hate. In a truly free Iran, islamic parties and deeply religious people (no matter what faith) have to have their vote and say as well!
Unfortunately a reactionist movement has been flaming up abroad recently, especially in Europe and in the US where “some” exiled Iranian have only learned to hang a “farvahar” neclace around the necks and walk around and correct people who use the words like “salam” and instead insist on iranians to greet each other with “dorood”. Not all but most of these people cant sustain a true intellectual debate about Irans past, present, nor future. You seem awfully similar to one of those people.

    Finally to truly test the freedom of speech on this blog in respect to your comment on 1.5 billion people Im going to say the following;
As much as Im agnostic I do have family members that are deeply faithful (islam). One of them being my own father. Though he never forced me once to pick up the quran and he never ever argued for or against it as he believes its a personal choice, something he learned from his parents. As he puts it; a truly faithful person is one who seeks faith and embraces it through free will. Now for you to condone the killing of him, and to call him an animal (which is exactly what you did with your comment) is in my opinion not only overboard but in reality wrong.
In my opinion animals are those who raise people into hate breeders that condone the killing of 1.5 billion people. Think about that for a minute!

I hope Bebin.Tv stays true to the topic and doesnt censur my comment in the same fasion as Sams comment wasnt!

  • 21 milad // Dec 11, 2008 at 12:29 am

what a value-less piece of exiled Persian with no identity !!!!!
sam ghaffari, you deffinitely are a true iranian, but to prove it, i think you should go change your last naem to sound more “true Iranian”, how about changing it to something like HOVAKHSHATARA ???? then you would look like your true leader Mr. Hakha the great :D
and together you can use your “ghodrathaye hakhayi” to reconquer our motherland?
    what do you think?

  • 22 milad // Dec 11, 2008 at 12:31 am

ohh MG, don’t the ones in Utah celebrate christmas too? oh ok !!!

by the way, please pick what language you wanna speak, either Farsi or English. PLEASE DO SO !!!!

  • 23 ohhh MG // Dec 11, 2008 at 1:36 am

shockjock e LAT @ least he has balls to use his real name……..unlike yours which wiki describes as such:

Shock jock is a slang term used to describe a type of radio broadcaster (sometimes a disc jockey) who attracts attention using humor that a significant portion of the listening audience may find offensive. The term is usually used pejoratively to describe provocative or irreverent broadcasters whose manners and on air behavior is offensive to the listener.

  • 24 sam ghaffari // Dec 11, 2008 at 9:41 am

i didnt mean true iranian im not at all a true iranian i just meant to say i dont like islam i think its screwing up the world and it should not be brought up here

  • 26 sam ghaffari // Dec 11, 2008 at 9:47 am

by true iranian i meant what niloo explained it just didnt come out right sorry

  • 27 Maryam H. // Dec 11, 2008 at 11:33 am

Wow, I’m kind of speechless at the different comments. Off the top I would like to mention that I am also first and foremost Iranian, I am also proud of being Canadian and I don’t think ethnicity should be mixed up with a particular religion. Following a certain religion or a certain philosophy in life should be a purely personal choice. I am also a scientist and working on cancer research has added more to my life than any of the above combined. I thought that since a lot of the viewers of this tv have grown up outside of Iran, where the value of respect for others is very important, then maybe I could have my voice heard. I thought that maybe 30 years after the revolution most of us could clearly see that what they are about is not really Islam or anything else for that matter. They just wanted to have an excuse for pushing their own dictator-like agenda. I don’t really care for politics anyways and since I grew up here I have had the option to make my own choices in life without force. I am not who I am today because of my family either because my parents always allowed us to make our own choices and anyways to be really honest I wouldn’t be considered religious by most standards. I also do know that historically most Iranians converted to Islam because of an attack by the Arabs but there are those who choose to remain muslim and there are those who choose to practice this religion. For the person who wrote that true Iranians are zartosht and nothing else then I guess christmas and halloween and … should not be mentioned either, right???? All I said was that an acknowledgement would be nice just like other holidays are acknowledged, I didn’t ask for a special program!!!
I dont’ want to accuse anyone of ignorance but come one people! Move to Utah???? Sorry, I wouldn’t leave Canada to live anywhere else. I don’t think Sam Ghaffari deserves a response …
If everyone in this world would stop judging and start respecting the world would be a much better place.

  • 28 Milad // Dec 11, 2008 at 11:44 am

haha Thanks for trying to sympathize and point at the cause of all the global problems !!!! sam ghaffari,
i dont know about everyone else, but i personally don’t deel THAT way.
what a Nazi-sounding creature !!!!! “I think its screwing up the world” isn’t that what hitler said about jews?
