He received santur lessons first from Hossein Saba and, after his death, from Abolhassan Saba. He also worked with Abdollah Davami and Haj Agha Mohammad Irani-Mojarrad.
In 1955, he played with Fine Arts Administrations Orchestra (conducted by Abolhassan Saba) in Tehran for one year and after that played with another ensemble in the administration that was led by Nosratollah Golpayegani. During this period he performed in Asia, Europe and the United States.
Heydari taught at the Persian National Music Conservatory in Tehran from 1961 until 1978, shortly before the revolution and his departure from Persia. Heydari also was the leader of Navazandegaan Ensemble and performed several programs on Tehran Radio and TV.
After the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Mohammad Heydari left the country for Italy and a few years later moved to Los Angeles, where he continued his activities as a soloist and songwriter. Some of his nostalgic songs such as “Zahr-e Jodai” and “Bahar Bahar” (both performed by Hayedeh) became popular in the Persian community.

Thanks a million Raha for introducing Mohammad Heydari to us, good job man. Among his masterpieces, I loved the ones he has played for Moein. I think you may have forgotten to list another beautiful song “Rah to boro mosafer” sang by Moein which is absolutely fantastic. I wish there was an interview with him as well, God bless him, there are not many like him left in the Persian community. How magic was our music in the past and what happened to that during the past ten years.

Thanks you so much guys, very proud of you. People need to know and appreciate artists behind the scenes, and not just the ones in the spot light. let these be a reminder and inspiration for the young ones perusing music, or perhaps a wake up call!

good job, another great work by Raha,
but i wish “Dele Man” or one of Moein’s songs was #1. well, i mean that’s how i would have put it, and Hayde’s songs would have been next in my list.
but what matters is that all of those songs are great oldies and i have so many memories with each one of them.

Thank you all for the great feedback!
Hamid Reza - Sattar has recently released a video with the composition of M. Heydari.
A fan f. SF- I truly appreciate what you wrote, baesse delgarmi bood.
Amir- I know, I love that song, but I figured 2 from Moein should be enough. Thanks
Maryam- Har vaght daram ye greatest hits edit mikonam, yade shoma miyoftam, merci Maryam jan.
Milad- Dear Milad, I sort of agree, i just thought it would be nice with Hayedeh as # 1. Dariush and Googoosh have been dominating 2 much.
