Tehrangeles

January 31st, 2008 · 19 Comments

Iranians all around the world have been succesful in practically every field that has prestige and status to it. But how often do we encounter Iranians in the police force or other kinds of law enforcements?

There is no doubt that the greater Los Angeles area or rather ‘Tehrangeles’ has the largest community of iranians outside of Iran. Therefore there is a demand within the LAPD for Iranian-American police officers who can relate to and understand other Iranian-Americans better.

…meet officer Mike Tehrani of the Los Angeles Police Department!

An “iranian-macho-centristic-Im always right” police officer serving in LAPD’s special unit that usually responds to calls involving iranians where he can help with language and cultural barriers.

In this first episode you will familiarize yourself with officer Tehrani, his background and why he became a valiant protector of the law!

Enjoy!

The show sucked big time….I think I fell asleep for parts of it and it was only 10 minutes. Mike needs to get some pizazz in his talking and not be so dull. It has potential but the first episode was not good.

Im very glad so many of you liked it. I know that this particular episode might have been a little slow in pace since the character is being established. Anyways the positive feedback reinforces my belief that Tehrangeles has great potential, although all aspects of the show can only get better and I will strive towards its perfection.

    Thanks everyone!

***Tougher penalties for police impersonation win final legislative approval; Governor Blagojevich pledges to sign
Legislation would increase jail time for police impersonation, create new offense for impersonation while carrying a deadly weapon, and broaden definition of peace officer to include local, state, and federal officials

CHICAGO – Governor Rod R. Blagojevich today praised the Illinois State Senate for passing House Bill 5336, a bill that will increase penalties for impersonating a police officer or fire fighter. The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Harry Osterman (D-Chicago) and Sen. Peter Roskam (R-Wheaton), would toughen penalties for anyone who impersonates a police officer or fire fighter while committing a more serious crime and would broaden the definition of Peace Officer to include local, state, or federal officials. The Governor proposed the legislation in January in response to a Chicago Sun-Times series that highlighted more than 1,000 police impersonation cases in the Chicago area over the last 3 years. The bill passed the House unanimously in February and now moves to the Governor’s desk. The Governor will sign the bill.

“Our police officers and fire fighters work hard to keep us safe. The idea that someone would pretend to be a police officer or fire fighter and put people’s lives in jeopardy is wrong and it’s dangerous. That’s why this bill is so important,” said Gov. Blagojevich.

HB 5336 would increase penalties for Aggravated False Personation of Peace Officer to a Class 2 felony - carrying a sentence of 3-7 years in jail and up to 4 years probation, and would also broaden the definition of Peace Officer to include any Homeland Securities Officers and local, State, or Federal authorities. The legislation would also create a new class of false personation – making impersonation of a Peace Officer or fire fighter while carrying a deadly weapon a Class 3 felony, and would make it a Class 2 felony to unlawfully stop another person while operating a car that has flashing or rotating lights.

“Most law-abiding citizens respect law enforcement officials and will follow the instructions given to them,” said Sen. Roskam. “Unfortunately, there are criminals who seek to take advantage of the trust people put in law enforcement officers and use it for their own purposes. Sometimes it is just people with a warped sense of humor, but other times it is something far more sinister. We need to address this growing problem and House Bill 5336 is one step in that process.”

“Fake cops in Illinois and throughout the nation are continuing to use a variety of tricks to deceive their victims,” Rep. Osterman said. “These people are some of the worst kinds of criminals. Impersonating a public official not only violates the trust of innocent people, but it undermines the role of peace officers in the community. This bill would increase the penalties for those who misrepresent themselves and take advantage of the unsuspecting.”

In January, the Sun-Times documented a number of police impersonation cases in Chicago, including one man who was sentenced to only 24 months’ probation and 10 days’ community service for posing as a fake cop - even though he attacked a man at gunpoint. In another case, charges were dismissed against a man who allegedly identified himself as “ISA-Homeland Security” to get out of a traffic ticket because current law only applies to people claiming to be police officers — not U.S. Department of Homeland Security officers.

Last year, Gov. Blagojevich signed legislation making it illegal to impersonate a pilot in restricted areas of Illinois airports. The law makes the impersonation of a pilot, airline employee, airport employee or contractor in restricted areas of an airport a Class 4 felony, punishable by one to three years in prison. The bill also prohibits anyone from claiming or falsely representing that they are a pilot, airline employee, airport employee, or contractor at an airport in order to obtain the uniform, identification card, or license of any airport or airline employee.

HB 5336 will take effect immediately after the Governor’s signature.

    HI Sam,

I’m really happy and glad that you are looking out for bebin.tv’s best interest… but rest assured that we have the proper permits and our legal team is happy with our ventures….

To save you some trouble with the legal research, and maybe help you understand the difference between the chicago legislation and what we are doing here, let me clarify the legal issue for you.

We are not impersonating an officer and the legislation you are talking about addresses that issue (when people go out and represent themselves to the public as real police officers).
Rather, we are using actors and FILMING the scripted dialouge in controlled environments.

Lastly, I highly doubt, that even the Illinois legislation would ban the acting of Chicago Police oficers for film, tv, or theater…. in short… I don’t think the legislation you are talking about had an actor in a cop uniform approaching other actors, with a camera crew following them, in mind.

    thnnks again,
    Officer Mike Tehrani

    Dear Mike Tehrani :

If you guys do have the legal permits then you should be fine.

The only thing is MIKE TEHRANI is introduced as An Officer with LAPD who works in special unit and the actor is trying to convince the viewer ( THE PUBLIC ) in the begining of the show that he is A REAL COP.
( Just for your info, I did think that this show is a Documantary of a COPPER with LAPD, but since the actor was too stupid to be a COP, it made me to do more research and find out that He is not a COP ) .. anyone who watches the show and does not know who Mike TEHRANI is, might think that he is a REAL COPPER with LAPD and since you guys are using this show not to ENCOURAGE the PUBLIC being a COP but just to make fun of them, You might and I will repeat YOU MIGHT get into trouble with LAPD , for using the NAME of that organization for your COMDEY SHOW and the arguement will be in the CIVIL court not criminal court and it can be simply over you guys bringing the reputation of an organization down by using their name… It s like me opening a website and saying I am with BEBIN.TV and do stupid thinks in the web site, your lawyer can sue me and bring me to the civil court and ask for $$$.

any how , I am sure LAPD is moderating the show and will contact you if guys if anything comes up. This show will be a huge risk to your site , if you guys get sued , you will need to attend the civil courts and spend thousands of dollars there. It s better for you guys to consult a lawyer or simply stop the show till you are LEGALLY STAMPED to farther continouethe show.
    *HINT* :
(I am sure if any one can get a lawyer to sue LAPD because their officer did something wrong , the LAPD lawyers are ready to sue people or organizations who try to give the wrong message to the public)

    Wish you the best
    Stay out of the trouble
