“To Champagne Mikhory ya Brandy?” filme “Jahela va Jigola”
Manouchehr Vossough was one of the biggest Iranian actors in the 1960s and 70s. In a span of 15 years he starred 95 films! In his busiest year he had starred in a total of 13 films! However, since he belonged to the “Pahlavi-era”, when the revolution hit Vossough, along with a handful of other big name actors were officially banned from being on air in any way, shape or form. They were sadly forced to sign a contract of agreement or otherwise face imprisonment!
Watch as Vossough speaks exclusively to Bebin as he reflects on his incredible life as a legendary actor in Iran!

I know I’m going to get flammed over this, but is it just me or was the acting quality in pre-revolution Iranian film/cinema lame or what?
Compared to what is coming out of the camera’s today (not including government made things) the acting is well in lieu of a better word MUCH better!
I mean how many movies from that era do you see where some guy fresh out of a village from the middle of no where starts speaking using the king’s Persian. Today the story lines are a bit better (though most of them end ambiguously), the acting and production quality is better. I think Iranian cinema is like hair, the more you cut it the stronger it gets…
Thats been my 2c.
-PS: Flame away.

Dear Arash,
You are absolutley right, but you are not comparing like with like.
Post-revolution actors were joining a brand new industry in Iran. They never went to any drama school (becasue there were none) and Iranian film making was in its infancy. Most stumbled on acting by chance. Fardin was a wrestler before he became an actor. Malak Motie was in the military.
Now, you have kids who go and study at drama school. Technology has improved so yes, so has the quality of Iranian movies and acting.
Besides, there were great actors post revolution too; Behrooz Vossoughi, Jamshid Mashayekhi (who is still acting in Iran). And some outstanding Iranian movies; Dash Akol, Gavaznha, and the more commercial but outstanding Ganghe Gharoon with Fardin. (and many more).
As Manoocher Vossough says in his interview, it was these people with basic facilities and no training who built the foundations of what is today known as the respected Iranian cinema.
