It’s a beautiful movie with a powerful story and a realistic message! Freedom comes with a price…and, in “Persepolis” we watch a young girl named Marjane become a woman in the midst of a country that is falling apart…while at the same time dealing with the issues that come with growing up and out of your teen years! Upon its release “Persepolis” the book received a lot of recognition and awards! So it’s no wonder that the movie has done exceptionally well for itself pretty much all around the world!
I was lucky to have a sit down with Marjane Satrapi while she was in L.A. and speak to her a bit about her film…..I hope you all enjoy…and if you have the chance see the movie! It was so good I could not stop crying…I even cried on my drive home from the theatre!! xoxo, Ladan

Thanks guys, it was the first televised interview with Marjan in Farsi (or at least the first one I’ve seen). I’ve seen the film and believe you me, I tried really hard not to cry as it brought back all those memories of the gray days of 80’s in Iran. It’s a sad reallity that these memories will stay with us for all of us under 30 years old Iranians. I just hope our next generation wouldn’t have to put up with memories like this. Thanks again.

she seems so nervous, I can’t really believe her. When I was reading the book unfortunately could find pile of lies and threw it to rubbish bin half-finished.
Lying for the sake of winning popularity with foreign audience is not the way a true persian play.

I dont think this has anything to do with shah, king or even the situation in Iran right now. Its someones personal experience during a period of their life. Not sure how old you are but early 1980’s was very difficult for most Iranians for different reasons one of which was the war.
I really doubt that this is a conspiracy by foreign governments again Iran. Dont give them too much credit!
Maybe one day you can make a film and share with everyone your memories of your childhood.

can someone tell me what does her memories have to do with ” Persepolis” ???? because i coyldnt find it when i read the book a couple of years ago.
the book being written might not be a conspiracy, but the follow up definitely is. there are waaaay more movies made that deserve all those awards. why would this cheap animation be so praised? something good to think about huh? ( kee pin mind that even she didn’t believe it could be successful, but it turned out she was wrong, she should have got some good support )
