City Talk *Christmas Special*

December 20th, 2007 · 10 Comments

Merry Christmas Everybody!!!

This week on City Talk: EXCITING pre-Christmas events for you and your family!!  The 7 most beautiful Christmas window displays in New York City!  The Top 10 films to watch during the Holidays (#1 is my favorite, favorite, FAVORITE!!!)!  The Movie of the Week has made history! The Book of the Week dishes dirt on a well known white rapper! And, the Album of the Week supports Amnesty International! Also, Omid Djalili has a new show on BBC One and Bebin.tv has a new comedy satire called “Tehrangeles!”

I taped this show 2 times!!!!  The first time around I drove an hour (back and forth) to the beautiful Griffith Park…but unfortunately, the audio was not good so I had to do it all over again 2 days later…this time, I went just down the street to Pierce Farm Market!!  Basically, I put double the effort in this time, so hopefully you all will enjoy it 2 times more!  xoxo, Ladan

I read Ms. Moaveni’s book before and thought it was just another memoir from Iran. A few of my Farsi professor’s thought it was awful, because she seems arrogant in writing about her experiences in going back to Iran. They criticized her for not understanding the current social dynamic and raising her nose to the lifestyle.

With that said, three books I would recommend are:
1- “Dry” by Augusten Burroughs, an outrageous memoir about the author’s experiences during and after rehab.
2- “In the Walled Gardens” by Anahita Firouz, a novel set in Iran about a doomed love affair restricted by class and ideology. This is one of my favorite novels of all time. Highly recommend it!
3- “We Are Iran” by Nasrin Alavi, a collection of weblogs from inside Iran. This book gives the reader access to the unheard opinions of the ‘children of the revolution’.
