A Personal “Blog” from Ladan

December 16th, 2007 · 12 Comments

I’m in a weird mood today…I feel…weird…a bit sad, somewhat confused, very nostalgic…looking forward to the future, but missing the past…It’s a WEIRD morning for me, so I thought I’d share it with you guys. Everybody feels like this every once in a while, so it’s not a big deal….I’m listening to “Age Ye Rooz” (I love that song!!) and old Googoosh, Dariush, Sattar songs..and just thinking..isn’t it strange how best friends come and go (the friends you thought would last forever). And your life takes so many twists and turns that when you think about it….had you made different choices you may have ended up a completely different person than you are now! Do you believe in fate, destiny….that everything happens for a reason??? …what if my family stayed in Iran and we never came to America? ….what if when my parents divorced my mom and I moved to Arizona (like she had wanted)…. what if I did go to the private all girls college in New York instead of going to the University of California, Irvine? …what if I never went to Iran after graduation? …& what if I ended up staying in Tehran forever and not returning to America (like I had wanted to!) …what if….this can go on forever, right? What are some of your “what if” moments? Please share….I know you have many!!! I look forward to hearing from you! ;) Ladan

    Dear Ladan
collecting “what if”s is a way to depression… so try to collect “Now what can i do”s to escape from your sorrows…

I try not to think of what if’s….I believe the choices and decisions we make all happen for a reason, even if they are a mistake-that way you learn from them and move on knowing better. But my big what if- ‘What if I still lived in Seattle, ahhhh!’

I say conduct a little test. Tomorrow, when you wake up with your busy schedule, as I’m sure we all have busy schedules, go through your entire day observing every single thing. When you go to starbucks to get your coffee, hold the door open for someone and smile at the person making your coffee. When you are driving, let the person who is about to cut you off go in front of you without honking or giving the finger. Call an old friend up to grab some dinner just to see how he/she is doing. Call your mom and/or dad and tell them you love them.
Now imagine staying home the whole day chillin on the computer, watching a movie.. what if you hadn’t of gone out on your daily routine. How many people’s lives would not have been affected just by you?

I have those days. It’s “enjoyably sad” days. I feel some sort of “shoor” or excitement along with loneliness, feeling that no one can understand and share my feelings. Then I pour some wine and go to youtube and try to find things that match my memories…

Thanks for all the comments guys! In response:

Pirooz, I think it’s healthy to have “wierd” days-as long as it lasts 1 day! But what I felt wasn’t “sorrow”…it was mixed emotions.

Kaveh: thanks for the link…it’s all about the inches in life! :)
Melissa: I believe everything happens for a reason too! But “what if”!!!!!!!! hahaha

Przn Rug: Life is all about those little acts of kindness…& when it comes down to it, it really is all about LOVE! & being active is good for your mind and health…I agree!

Arman: I TOTALLY agree!!! It is “enjoyably” sad!!! That’s why I call it a “wierd” day, because I’m enjoying this rare nostalgic day…I actually went on youtube to find good sad songs to listen to!!!!
This was great….thanks everyone….maybe I’ll send personal blogs more often!!! xoxoLadan

the big “what if” i’m dealing with right now is realizing that i’ve completely segregated myself to middle easterners at my uni and thinking “what if there was a bigger group of iranians, would i segregate myself to just iranians?” i’m worried that the diversity in friends i had in high school has transited to exclusivity in college. that’s not good, at least not in my eyes. what if i had been more open coming into college?…

When I get in this mood, I think of ‘Dancing Nancies’ by Dave Matthews Band. The lyrics:

    Could I have been
    A parking lot attendant
    Could I have been
    A millionaire in bel air
    Could I have been
    Lost somewhere in paris
    Could I have been
    Your little brother
Could I have been anyone other than me
Could I have been oh, anyone other than me
    Could I have been anyone
He stands touch his hair his shoes untied
    Tongue gaping stare
Could I have been a magnet for money
Could I have been anyone other than me
    Twenty three
    Im so tired of life
Such a shame to throw it all away
    The images grow darker still
Could I have been anyone other then me?
    Then i
    Look up at the sky
My mouth is open wide, like and taste
Whats the use in worrying, whats the use in hurrying
Turn turn we almost become dizzy
