I know some Tajiki and Afghan (being raised in North Cali) but still i’m asking you guys to translete this sentence. I repeat: “Ye KOCHOLO varzesh kardam nakhonam KAND”
you should have some sort of standards, for god’s sake its a TV channel, i’m not asking you guys to speak in a scholary level, or use “big” words, but please stop “making up words and sentences”

We put that clip in there because it is a blooper, I’m sure the sentence does not make sense in Persian, but I am working on the language, and in the mean time, having fun learning and making mistakes as I go.

You guys should be motivating her. Well, at least she talks much bettter than my causin and by the way as she said, she is developing her persian literacy. When she speaks in persian, (which is very cute) I will start to laugh because her persian accent is so similar to my causin’s and my causin can not prounance the “gh” and instead prounances “g”. We tried to make fun of him one day and asked him to say “ghooz” and he just said “gooz” and everyone laughed at him. but I am sure Mel will definitely become fluent in persian. Just keep it up and then you are there.

To Rob W, I am not a hater, I just refuse to confirm to some BS entertainment.
To Vafa, Why would anyone care about your “gooz” story. And besides that’s not even a part of the mainstream media. My little brother is not able to say “Ch” but who cares.
She is a TV-host, kids might use bebin as a source in order for their Farsi to develop.
And if we let these people represent the new generation we wont have ANYTHING but, nakhonam kand, kocholo, etc. in our vocabulary!
It’s turning into a BIG joke!

To Khiar-
Bebin.tv is a channel for second-gerenation Iranians throughout the world, some in which have lost touch with their Iranian culture. Not everyone’s Persian is perfect, all I am saying is I love my culture so much I am trying to learn. If you do not like the way I speak, I recommend you watch our other programs in which our TV hosts speak more fluently.
And to Vafa- I enjoyed your comment, and if anyone wants to mention any kind of personal experience or story, I encourage them to.

I am not any one’s enemy- Khiar, if you think, I have offended you, then I would like to apologise.
We need to have people like Mel? why because firstly they get the hope to develop their persian and secondly they also motivate people like themselves to come and learn persian.
It is not fair to exclude anyone because they can not speak the language well. We should be allowing them so they can learn much better.
You can not expect anyone to speak fluent persian in two days, she should be trying her hardest and she is doing.
ok, Mel, I do not know if you can write or read in persian. As you know LaTeX is the typesetting software by Donald Knuth (Prof of university of Stanford). We also have the persian version of LaTeX which allows you to typeset in persian. If you have any interest you can visit

From day one, no one at Bebin TV seems to have claimed that they represent the entire Persian community. It is, after all, an entertainment channel. Although they present culturally-themed material, don’t forget that their main purpose is to entertain. As has been said many times before, not all Persians speak Farsi as well as some would like, but yet they try because language is a carrier of their culture, a culture in which they take pride and try to expose to a Western world that too often has negative attitudes towards it.
The nature of the global world in which we live affects language to the extent that it is constantly undergoing change, and this may make some people angry. It is a good thing to want your language to be preserved but to admonish a TV host for not speaking the language as you would like and to claim that her use of the language might corrupt the education of children trying to learn the language is misplaced. If you are or will become a parent, and having your children learn to speak Farsi fluently is important to you, then it’s your job to to teach them.
Comparing Melissa’s early shows to her later ones demonstrate that her language use has improved immensely. And if she was ever seen to represent anything, it was as an American-Iranian with imperfect Farsi trying to entertain. She obviously entertains quite well because she is so popular. For every one person that doesn’t like her use of Farsi, there are three that do.
