A New Generation of Persian Speakers

November 5th, 2007 · 7 Comments

I found it really interesting (and logical) how the students who are in the class and eager to learn Farsi have NEVER been teased by anyone other than family (which doesn’t count)….so they have no reason to be embarrassed by their “lahje”and therefore dissuaded to learn. Also, the Iranians born in America had no idea what “Finglish” meant, but the Iranians from Iran did! …wierd, but again makes sense if you think about it!Also, the kids in the class stated that it was their “heritage” and “culture” and that they wanted to be able to carry it on to their own kids. Which is inspiring and a positive thing for other Iranians: to know that 2nd or even 3rd generation Iranians have not distanced themselves from their “vatan” despite the challenge of having been away from Iran for probably all their life.Doing the interviews made me happy and left me feeling positive…I hope you all felt the same! …Let me know. I would love feedback.xo-Ladan

Please use “Persian” instead of “Farsi”, because فارسی is the native word. There is no Almani, or Faranse or Rusi too!

    Very interesting clip.

    Thanks

I really like the fact that the university is offering such a class…for a farsi class just to be thaught in that university, motivates alot of persians/iranians and others to check out the course and learn the language

Toronto has a large iranian community as well and I know york universities (the one i went to)is trying to offer a farsi course for students too..it’s just a matter of finding an iranian prof and getting the permission from the university :)

glad to see so many students in that class wanting to learn farsi ;)
